In a major recognition of African football leadership, FIFA has appointed Mustapha I. Raji, President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), as Deputy Chairman of the FIFA Olympic Football Committee for the 2025–2029 term.

The appointment was confirmed during the FIFA Council meeting held in Zurich.

Raji’s selection follows an extensive consultation process involving FIFA Member Associations and continental confederations, as part of the formation of new Standing Committees for the next four-year cycle.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasized the importance of the new committees, stating, “The new Standing Committees will lead to the greater involvement of our Member Associations, the confederations and other stakeholders in our decision-making processes, increased female representation and more focused technical expertise in various areas relevant to football.”

His appointment is seen as a significant nod to his growing influence and credibility within international football governance.

In response, The LFA has expressed pride in the achievement, describing it as a milestone for Liberian and African football.

“We proudly congratulate President Raji on this latest achievement and look forward to his continued leadership and contributions to both African and global football,” the association stated.

Raji’s role on the Olympic Football Committee will involve helping shape policies and decisions related to the football tournaments at the Olympic Games, a crucial platform for showcasing the sport’s future talent on the world stage.
