The Grand Bassa County Administration gathered at the Administrative Building to
celebrate a notable achievement: the presentation of the Bassa Sports
Association (BSA) kickball trophy to the county’s leadership in recognition of
the team’s victory during the 2024/2025 season of the National County Sports
Meet.

The event also marked a significant leadership change within the BSA, as Chairman
Gabriel Y. Montgomery announced his resignation, citing the need for new ideas
and a fresh approach to sustain county sports development.

During the ceremony, Mr. Montgomery reflected on the team’s success, acknowledging the
challenges faced amid county leadership transitions and financial constraints.

He explained that the delay in trophy presentation was due to his national duties
and expressed gratitude for the support from county officials and community
members.

“The kickball team has brought pride to Grand
Bassa, and their achievements deserve recognition,” Montgomery stated.

He recounted efforts to navigate bureaucratic hurdles and address past issues like
delayed player payments, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and
integrity in managing sports funds.

Montgomery highlighted the importance of teamwork and community collaboration, reaffirming
his ongoing support for local sports initiatives despite stepping down.

“Leadership has its endpoints, and change is inevitable,” he said. He expressed confidence
in the new leadership that would soon take over and pledged to continue
supporting county sports in any capacity for the development of the community.

On behalf of the county administration, Hon. Moses Gbehzohngar Henry conveyed
pride and appreciation for the kickball team’s victory.

He acknowledged the significance of the trophy and announced plans for an official
thank-you program, emphasizing the importance of proper government procedures
and accountability in disbursing funds.

“Player payments will be our top priority for the next season. We are committed to
supporting the team and ensuring they remain champions,” Hon. Henry affirmed.

Decontee Williams, captain of the victorious kickball team, expressed gratitude to key
officials, including the BSA Chairman and Secretary General, for their
unwavering support.

She praised the collective effort that led to their success
and shared her disappointment over the lack of motivation from some government
officials during challenging times, contrasting it with the encouragement
received from private citizens that kept the team motivated.

As the county prepares to honor the team’s achievement, the event underscored
themes of community pride, leadership renewal, and the importance of sustained
support for local sports.

Montgomery’s resignation and call for new
leadership symbolize a new chapter for the Bassa Sports Association,
emphasizing transparency, teamwork, and community engagement as essential for
future success.
