The St. John River Bridge, a critical infrastructure linking Bong and Grand Bassa Counties, is undergoing much-anticipated rehabilitation through an intervention of Bong County District One Representative Prince K. Koinah.
During a recent appreciation visit to the reconditioning site, located at the Rock Crusher, Rep. Koinah received accolades from local residents for his proactive legislative oversight.
The bridge, constructed in the 1960s, has long been in a state of disrepair, described by locals as a “death trap” after multiple accidents resulted in fatalities.
Responding to concerns about the bridge’s neglect, Rep. Koinah initiated a communication to the House of Representatives, urging an investigation into the roles of both government authorities and concessionaires responsible for its condition.
In light of these efforts, ArcelorMittal Liberia has commenced rehabilitation works on the dilapidated structure, providing vital logistical and technical support.
Chief Engineer Julius Saywallah from ArcelorMittal stated that the project is designed for longevity, with an expected lifespan of fifty years.
During his visit, Rep. Koinah emphasized the bridge’s significance not only for daily commuters but also for the operational efficiency of ArcelorMittal Liberia, which relies on said route for transportation.
His collaborative efforts have been acknowledged alongside those of Rep. Alfred Flomo of Bassa District #3, who also received praise for his contributions to the project.
Meanwhile, Residents from both Bong and Grand Bassa Counties have expressed their gratitude and excitement over the ongoing rehabilitation, marking a significant step towards restoring a vital economic lifeline in the region.
