The Grand Bassa County Health Team, in collaboration with the Liberia National Police, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden and mysterious death of a female patient at Richard Drug Store on Tower Street, in Wee District.
The deceased, Yarmah Vah, died unexpectedly on May 30, 2025, after being admitted to the pharmacy for medication.
The incident has sparked widespread concern about healthcare practices within the district and has prompted calls for stringent regulation of pharmacy operations.
In an interview with journalists on June 2, 2025, District Health Officer Alexander Joe expressed serious concern over the incident.
โWe cannot stand idly by while the health of our community is at risk,โ he stated and The death of Yarmah Vah serves as a wake-up call for all drug stores in the district”, he added.
Officer Joe confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the cause of death and whether any violations of health regulations contributed to the incident.
He warned that if violations are discovered, the county health authorities may consider the full closure of all drug stores in the district, along with potential legal action against those responsible.
The community has responded with shock and outrage.
At the same time, Many residents are advocating for increased monitoring and stricter oversight of pharmacy practices in Wee District to prevent future tragedies.
In light of the ongoing investigation, the District Health Officer has called on all drug stores to immediately review and strengthen their operational practices to ensure compliance with health regulations.
As the inquiry continues, the community mourns the loss of Yarmah Vah and hopes for increased safety measures to protect residents who depend on healthcare services in the district.
