The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia has received
commendation for a seamless and credible start to this year’s national exams in
Grand Bassa County.
Samuel Zoegar, principal of Buchanan
Open Bible Standard High School and head of the county’s principals, expressed
satisfaction with the smooth rollout, highlighting the absence of malpractice
reports since the exams began Thursday morning.
Mr. Zoegar noted that all eight examination centers six in Buchanan City and
two in District #3 A (Gorblee High School and LAC St. Joseph High School), have
operated without incident.
He attributed this success to increased transparency and professionalism,
especially in contrast to previous years where unauthorized camping and the
smuggling of foreign materials were recurrent issues.
A key improvement this year, he added, is the introduction of scanning
machines at exam centers, a move by WAEC Liberia that has significantly
enhanced security by preventing the entry of unauthorized materials.
“The environment has been peaceful, and the process, so far, has been
commendably professional,” Mr. Zoegar stated. He emphasized the need for
continued vigilance, urging exam monitors to maintain high ethical standards,
as their actions directly affect the credibility of the exams.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Zoegar encouraged students to tackle the
exams with honesty and critical thinking. He called on them to demonstrate
their knowledge independently, reinforcing the value of integrity in education.
“This is an opportunity for students to show what they’ve learned, without
shortcuts,” he said. “Let their results reflect their true potential.”
