The United States Government, through the Department of Defense’s Overseas
Humanitarian, Disaster Assistance, and Civic Aid (OHDACA) program, has donated
more than $150,000 worth of lifesaving endoscopic medical equipment to the
Armed Forces of Liberia’s (AFL) 14 Military Hospital.
The donation, made on May 23, 2025, includes high-tech equipment that will
allow the hospital to screen, diagnose, and treat gastrointestinal illnesses,
including cancer, using minimally invasive procedures. The hospital is now
among the first in Liberia to offer these advanced capabilities.
“This donation marks a major step toward building a more capable and
self-reliant health system in Liberia,” the U.S. Embassy said in a statement.
“It will significantly improve outcomes for patients across the country.”
In addition to the equipment, U.S. military medical professionals are
providing hands-on training to AFL medical staff to ensure effective usage.
This collaboration is part of a broader effort to enhance Liberia’s medical
readiness and strengthen U.S.-Liberia military ties.
The latest donation adds to a series of U.S. investments in 14 Military
Hospital. In November 2024, the U.S. Government funded the opening of a
dedicated Tuberculosis Clinic at the facility. Ongoing collaboration includes
medical exchanges and professional development initiatives.
The donation coincided with a week-long subject matter expert exchange led
by the Michigan National Guard, which has partnered with the AFL since 2009
through the State Partnership Program. During the exchange, Guard personnel
donated critical medical supplies, including personal protective equipment,
bandages, and syringes.
The partnership has played a key role in building the AFL’s operational
capacity and fostering a shared commitment to service and accountability.
