William V. S. Tubman University (TU) has entered into a landmark academic agreement with the University of Memphis, USA.
The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was officially signed on June 18, 2025, by TU President Dr. Olu Q. Menjay and University of Memphis President Dr. Bill Hardgrave.
This agreement signals a shared commitment to enhancing academic programs through collaborative research initiatives, co-hosted seminars, professional internships, and workforce development strategies.
The partnership highlights TU’s ambition to forge global connections and elevate higher education standards in southeastern Liberia.
Dr. Menjay’s recent visit to the University of Memphis allowed him to engage with key academic leaders, including Dr. David Russomanno, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
Together, they identified immediate areas for collaboration, particularly in #education and #engineering—fields critical to both national and global progress. Strategic meetings were held with the deans ( Dr. Mike Miller and Dr. Okenwa Okolo) of both colleges to explore concrete pathways for future programming.
According to a release from the Institution, this timely partnership aligns closely with the recent visit of #Liberia’s President H.E. Joseph Boakai to the United States, where discussions focused on enhancing trade and cooperation between Liberia and the U.S.
TU is positioning itself as a center of learning and innovation that supports these national goals and contributes to Liberia’s development on the global stage.
“This agreement opens new doors for our faculty and students to engage with global academic practices and strengthen our research capacity,” stated Dr. Menjay. “It reflects our ongoing efforts to place Tubman University on the global map as a hub for excellence in teaching, research, and meaningful international collaboration.
We are grateful to the University of Memphis for their openness and commitment to this shared journey.”
Dr. Russomanno echoed this sentiment, expressing enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We are honored to partner with Tubman University in this forward-looking initiative. It is our belief that shared knowledge across borders leads to transformative impact for both institutions and the communities we serve.”
While the MoA does not impose immediate financial obligations, it establishes a framework for future cooperative initiatives based on mutual interests and available resources. This partnership signifies a pivotal moment in TU’s quest for excellence and its dedication to fostering international academic relationships.
