Liberia’s Ambassador for Youth and Sports Development, Alioune Kebe, has commended the country’s senior national football team following their impressive 3-1 win over Namibia on Thursday, in what many are calling a morale-boosting performance on home soil.

Though Liberia has fallen short of qualification for the next stage of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Amb. Kebe believes the victory represents a turning point for the team and its relationship with Liberian fans.

“More wins like this will help rebuild the fans’ confidence and trust in the national team. This is a good start,” Kebe remarked post-match.

While acknowledging that Liberia is no longer in contention for the next round, the former professional footballer praised the team’s fighting spirit and urged Liberians to focus on the long-term rebuilding of the squad.

“This performance shows that there’s a foundation for a better future. The signal for growth in a new national team is clear and should be appreciated,” he emphasized.

Kebe also lauded the technical staff for their work under challenging conditions, calling their efforts “commendable” in light of resource limitations.

As part of his continued support for the national team, Amb. Kebe revealed plans to travel with the team to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, for Liberia’s final qualifier.

Though the result won’t affect standings, he stressed that closing the campaign with a win would be a symbolic and motivational boost for the country.

“With this support, the team can secure 17 points, a strong finish that, while not qualifying, sends a positive message for the future of Liberian sports,” he noted.

Ahead of the upcoming match, Kebe made an undisclosed support to the team, citing it as a gesture of encouragement and appreciation.

He has previously demonstrated a hands-on approach to sports development in Liberia.

In early 2025, he visited the local national team’s training at Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex, offering direct financial assistance.

He also donated 600,000 LRD to the Women’s National Team after their remarkable third-place finish in the regional women’s Tournament, Called WAFU.

Beyond his ambassadorial role, Kebe is the Founder and CEO of the Professional Sports Academy, Liberia’s first multi-disciplinary sports academy, nurturing over 300 young talents across:

Football (both boys and girls)

Male & Female Basketball

Specialized Goalkeeper Training

Handball – Liberia’s only academy for young girls in the sport

“It’s not just about winning today, it’s about preparing the next generation.

Talent development and infrastructure go hand-in-hand,” Kebe told reporters.
