Sinoe County Senator Crayton Duncan has formally requested the Liberian Senate to invite representatives from Firestone, Mittal Steel, and Bea Mountain Mining to give reasons behind the change of names of these companies.
In a communication to his colleagues, Senator Duncan wants to know the reasons behind recent name changes – specifically, Firestone becoming Firestone Liberia Incorporated, and ArcelorMittal now known as Mittal Steel Liberia.
He believes these changes, incorporating Liberia into their names, should translate into tangible economic benefits for the nation.
Furthermore, Senator Duncan is pressing for answers on whether Liberians hold shares in these companies.
He’s also seeking clarification on specific profit-sharing mechanisms that benefit Liberia under the banner of wealth creation and economic empowerment.
The Senator emphasized the need to inquire about the salary structures of Liberian employees compared to foreign experts, the annual royalties paid to the Republic of Liberia, and any reported losses.
