The Superintendent of Rivergee County Mike Swengbe has extended his heartfelt sorrow to those who got affected by flooding in Gbeapo Kanweaken.
As the commercial hub of River Gee County, Gbeapo Kanweaken is situated about 20 kilometers from the county’s capital City, Fish-Town.
Swengbe recognized the extensive damage caused by the floods, expressing his commitment to immediate action from the local government to address the disaster’s consequences and to implement strategies that will mitigate future flooding risks.
He emphasized that the safety and well-being of the community’s residents are his top priorities.
The Superintendent noted that his administration is collaborating with the CHICO Road Construction Company in the county to offer support and develop protective measures to safeguard the area from potential future floods.
Swengbe called on residents throughout the County to unite in their support for those impacted by the Gbeapo Kaweaken floods, underscoring the importance of community solidarity during this challenging time.
It can be recalled on June 5, 2025, a severe flood ravaged the River Gee commercial center, displacing more than twenty households, resulting into considerable property destruction.
Similar flooding occurred on May 23 2025, induced by heavy rain and left many residents in central Fish-Town homeless as they are still in desperate need of aid.
Due to the incident, about five households were affected, facing major property losses and distress, including Esther Wilson, a 37-year-old single mother of four, who urgently requires assistance.
In light of the increasing frequency of such events, there is an urgent need for county officials and environmental specialists to ensure measures aimed at preventing similar disasters in the future.
