The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco have initiated a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the capacity of journalists and media institutions in Liberia.

The collaboration was formalized during a high-level meeting held on Friday, 3 October 2025, at the Moroccan Embassy in Sinkor, Monrovia.

The meeting brought together key representatives from both sides and followed a series of engagements between the PUL leadership and the Moroccan mission.

Lahoucine Rahmouni, Chargé d’Affaires at the Moroccan Embassy, led the discussions and outlined Morocco’s broader development initiatives in Liberia.

These include investments in agriculture, energy, education, trade, training, and digital empowerment part of Morocco’s vision for South South cooperation and African solidarity.

PUL President Julius Kanubah welcomed the initiative, thanking Mr. Rahmouni for the embassy’s ongoing engagement, including its participation in the PUL’s 61st anniversary celebrations.

He emphasized the importance of addressing key challenges facing Liberia’s media sector, particularly in areas of digital innovation, institutional development, and professional training.

“Liberia’s media plays a pivotal role in our democratic process,” Kanubah said.

“However, we face serious challenges in adapting to global media trends. A partnership with Morocco, with its expertise in digital transformation and media training, offers a valuable opportunity for shared progress”, he added.

Mr. Rahmouni reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s development under the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.

He underscored Morocco’s interest in advancing media professionalism and promoting freedom of expression as part of this bilateral cooperation.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism about a future framework for joint projects and capacity-building programs targeting journalists and media institutions across Liberia.
