Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana said President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s quest to fight drugs and other unwholesome substances across the Country remains unquenched.
“His fight towards drugs is strong and unrelenting “, she re-emphasized.
Speaking at the regular Executive mansion press briefing madam Fofana stated that the Liberian leader as part of his government’s effort to battle drugs continue to institute several measures to help address the situation.
Drugs abuse she stressed is a national issue as such, the Chief Executive is taking it very seriously in the wake of the crisis.
Providing information on his recent dismissal of all senior officials at the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency, the Presidential Press Secretary disclosed that the action by President Boakai was based upon recommendation from a team of professional experts in the security sector of the Country.
She further stated that the decision followed a thorough and impartial investigation including key discussions surrounding the issue something among others things informed his decision.
President Boakai she highlighted remains resolved in ensuring that the right things are done in the sector in order to ensure that the youth are protected from drug abuse and other harmful substances.
When asked about speculations linking some top government officials to alleged drug trafficking, she mentioned that the President will do the needful and if anyone is found guilty by such action, he will take appropriate action necessary in the interest of the nation and its people.
At the same time, she indicated that the President is also interested in a full scale investigation into the matter at the LDEA and will be awaiting a report after the three months period from the interim team who he recently appointed to begin such task.
The report she pointed out will be review properly by the Liberian leader and subsequently followed by actions where necessary.
Speaking on other issues, she disclosed Saturday, August 30, 2025 as the burial date of former Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Amb. Sylvester Grigsby in Texes , the United States of America.
According to her, the President is sad about his former chief of office staff passing.
In a slow tune, she added that it is a challenging time for the President especially this weekend when his former friend will be laid to rest.
She said the Liberian leader will miss the seasoned public servant especially his role and contributions to Liberia over the years.
As part of the government’s recognition of Amb. Grigsby’s contributions to Liberia, President Boakai, she told Executive mansion reporters has dispatched a special government’s delegation to the United States of America to attend the funeral of the fallen Statemen.
The delegation she added is headed by Justice Minister, Cllr. Osward Tweh.
At the same time, she indicated that the government will also plan a special memorial ceremony soon for the passing of former Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Amb. Sylvester Grigsby.
“We here at the Presidential Press Secretary office are also sad because our boss touched our Iives in different ways and also impacted many other young people over the years and we all will miss him”, she noted.
Meanwhile, President Boakai she disclosed has also appointed Jallah Kesselly as Executive Director at the Governamce Commission.
Mr. Kesselly will join the team at the GC to continue the work and mandate of the government, she noted.
