In a bid to strengthen health supervision and improve rural healthcare
delivery in Maryland County, Plan International Liberia has donated 20
brand-new Yamaha motorbikes to the Maryland County Health Team.
The official handover ceremony, attended by numerous government officials
and health stakeholders, marked a significant milestone in efforts to boost
access to remote communities.
Olastford S. Wiah, Director of the Community Health Services Division at the
Ministry of Health, received the motorbikes on behalf of the ministry and
expressed appreciation to Plan International Liberia for its longstanding
support to the health sector, particularly in rural Liberia.
โThis donation reflects the continued partnership and commitment of Plan
International to community health,โ Wiah said. He subsequently handed over the
motorbikes to Dr. Siedoh Freeman, Maryland County Health Officer.
Dr. Freeman thanked Plan International Liberia and affirmed that the
motorbikes will be used for their intended purpose.
โOn behalf of the Maryland County Health Team, we express our heartfelt
gratitude to Plan International Liberia and the Community Health Department for
these 20 brand-new motorbikes.
He They will significantly enhance our outreach and monitoring efforts,
especially in hard-to-reach areas of the county,โ she stated.
According to officials, the motorbikes will be distributed among Community
Health Services Supervisors (CHSS) across the county. This initiative is
expected to improve health supervision, facilitate mobility, and bridge
critical gaps in healthcare access.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Maryland County Superintendent and Chair of
the County Health Board, Henry B. Cole, applauded the organization for
fulfilling its commitment.
โPlan International has finally fulfilled its promise, and we must commend them
for that,โ Cole said. โThis level of support is key to building a better and
more responsive healthcare system for our people.โ
Beneficiaries of the donation shared their excitement, noting that the
motorbikes will help reduce the challenges they face in reaching remote
communities.
โThis is a complete joy for me,โ said one supervisor. โWith this motorbike, I
will be able to better serve the people and meet the expectations of our
county.โ
The donation is part of Plan International Liberiaโs broader commitment to
strengthening Liberiaโs healthcare system, with a focus on underserved
counties.
