In the wake of challenges facing the office for the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia, it continues to work in rolling out its activities in order to meet up with its mandate.

The office under the leadership of Cllr. Jallah Barbu as Executive Director as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure that the courts are established in Liberia officially launched its national outreach campaign.

Graced by partners, international community, civil society organizations and Liberians in general, the outreach among other things aimed at fostering public understanding and engagement regarding Liberia’s transitional justice processes.

Under the theme Justice and healing for all, Join us on the road to Justice, the energized Executive Director Cllr. Jallah Barbu told the gathering that they are committed to the process.

He pleged his office unwavering support to reach out to Towns, Villages, clans, local and urban communities, Cities across the Country inorder to spread out the messages about transitional justice issues as well as the significance for the establishment of the courts in Liberia.

” We will roll out our sleeves to reach out as much as possible to engage our people and inform them of this national process”, Dr. Jallah reemphasized.

He at the same time, told the gathering that the entire process is a national driven one as such requires robust consultations to ensure every corner of the nation is touched.

Also speaking at the program was the Chairman of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights Cllr. Dempster Brown who reechoed the need for the significance of the courts to be established in Liberia in order to close the culture of impunity and fight corruption holistically.

Cllr. Brown also disclosed that the Human Rights Commission as part of its ongoing Outreach activities Nationwide has identified more mass graves contrary to what was documented by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report.

He calls for more support, collaboration and protection from officials at OWECC-L in order to ensure that they achieve their mandate to the core.

At the same time, the Head of the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in Liberia Christian Mukosa, reaffirmed his office support and cooperation to the work of the establishment of the war and economic crimes court in Liberia.

According to him, the launched marked a critical step towards a long but achievable journey ahead of the courts establishment.

Speaking further the resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Liberia Christine Umutoni hailed the OWECC-L of the official launch of its National Outreach Campaign.

She encouraged them to ensure that the messaging be well coordinated and synchronized to avoid misinformation and disinformation in the public.

Additionally, madam Umutoni reemphasized the need for Public trust and reliance in the process which she added is critical.

The well organized national campaign launch also saw civil society and women groups amongst others pledging their support to the process.

They at the same time vow to play an active role in process in order to constructively engaged all Liberians in the urban and rural areas to spread the message about the courts establishment as well as transitional justice issues respectively.
