The Office for the Establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court (OWECC-L), in collaboration with Transitional Justice actors, announces the official launch of its National Outreach Campaign.
Thw move is a transformative initiative aimed at engaging citizens across Liberia as part of effort in addressing impunity and promoting accountability.
Under the theme “Justice for All”, the outreach campaign will be launched on Saturday July 19, 2005 with activities rolling out to all fifteen counties and diaspora subsequently.
According to OWECC-L, The National Outreach launch marks a historic milestone in Liberia’s journey toward the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court and the National Anti-Corruption Court – two long-awaited institutions designed to address past atrocities, combat impunity, and promote national healing.
The National Outreach Campaign is intended to foster public understanding of the courts’ mandates and Liberia’s transitional justice roadmap, promote inclusive dialogue among citizens, survivors, and stakeholders, and encourage community participation in justice reform and civic education.
Executive Director Dr. Jallah A. Barbu emphasized the campaign’s inclusive approach stating that Montserrado is not Liberia alone.
He assured the public that they will work to ensure that every county is fully involved in this process.
Justice, he maintained must be accessible to all.
Among other things, The campaign is guided by the National Communication and Outreach Strategy for Transitional Justice, developed through consultations with civil society, media professionals, traditional leaders, and international partners and will feature, truth telling and creating safe spaces for survivors to share their stories, Key messages include “Justice is everybody’s business” You are not forgotten.
Justice is your right” delayed justice is not denied justice”These messages will be amplified through radio, social media, community theater, and grassroots mobilization, ensuring accessibility across Liberia’s diverse communities.
OWECC-L has projected November 2027 to operationalize the War and Economic Crimes Courts to be fully operational following the launch of the National Anti-Corruption Court in November 2026.
These courts represent a bold step toward ending impunity and restoring public trust in Liberia’s institutions.President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has reaffirmed his commitment to these reforms, calling on all Liberians to support the process and participate actively in shaping a just and transparent future.Media and Public Affairs
