The Chairperson of the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC), Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, has described the Secretariat of the Inter-Party Consultative Committee (IPCC) as a cornerstone of peace, trust, and democratic dialogue in Liberia’s electoral process.
Speaking on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in Gbarnga during a two-day national gathering of all registered political parties and coalitions, Madam Browne Lansanah reflected on Liberia’s electoral history, noting that elections in the past were often characterized by tension, mistrust, and uncertainty.
She said the establishment of the IPCC Secretariat marks a significant departure from that history, providing a permanent and structured platform for dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect among political actors.
According to her, the Secretariat embodies a shared national commitment to resolving political differences through engagement rather than confrontation.
“The IPCC Secretariat stands as a symbol of our collective resolve to safeguard peace, build trust, and uphold electoral integrity,” the NEC Chairperson stated.
“It ensures that political parties and the NEC have a continuous space to consult, collaborate, and strengthen confidence in the democratic process.”
Madam Browne Lansanah noted that the Gbarnga meeting represents the culmination of a long and deliberate journey that began with the signing of the IPCC Memorandum of Understanding in 2005.
The NEC Boss further added that subsequent amendments in 2016 and the most recent revision in July 2025 have further strengthened the framework to respond to emerging democratic needs.
The IPCC brings together representatives of all registered political parties and the NEC to promote collaboration, deepen political dialogue, and advance democratic consolidation in Liberia.
The two-day gathering in Gbarnga provides an opportunity for stakeholders to review progress, address challenges, and reinforce commitments to peaceful, credible, and transparent elections.
