The National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS) has launched a daylong Multi-Stakeholders County Level Consultation in Voinjama, Lofa County.
The NCCS comprises key bodies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), and various Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
Z. Elijah Whapoe, the National Coordinator of the NCCS, emphasized the importance of the event during his opening remarks.
He indicated that it is part of a broader initiative focused on the National Carbon Policy and the Climate Change Law of Liberia.
Gathered at the Williams V. S. Tubman County Hall, the consultation has attracted a diverse array of participants, including Lofa County Superintendent, J. Lavelah Massaquoi, representatives from the Liberia Marketing Association, members of the Voinjama City Corporation, various ministries and agencies, and advocates for people with disabilities and youth.
The primary objective of the initiative is to disseminate comprehensive information about the implementation of Liberia’s National Carbon Policy and Climate Change Law.
Superintendent Massaquoi highlighted the urgency of reducing the country’s carbon emissions and adopting climate-friendly technologies.
He urged the attendees to recognize the importance of policies and laws that lower emissions, advocating for their effective implementation.
Furthermore, Superintendent Massaquoi encouraged participants to remain focused, stressing their role as ambassadors within their communities in promoting climate actions.
The multi-stakeholder consultation is supported by the MF-GAP, which aims to bolster forest governance in Liberia by increasing accountability and oversight within the EU Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) process.
The event underscores a collective commitment toward addressing climate change and fostering a sustainable future.
