A three-day National Conference on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) has officially commenced in Monrovia, bringing together key stakeholders to deliberate on strategies aimed at improving access to SRHR services across Liberia.
The conference, held under the theme “Breaking the Barriers: Promoting Access to SRHR for All in Liberia,” convenes participants from civil society organizations, government institutions, youth and women’s groups, international partners, and human rights advocates.
The event runs from Wednesday, October 8, to Friday, October 10, 2025.
Serving as keynote speaker, Dr. Dazon Dixon Diallo, a renowned global advocate for women’s health and rights, emphasized the urgent need for Liberia to establish a Sexual and Reproductive Justice Framework that ensures equitable access to reproductive health information and services for all citizens.
Dr. Diallo underscored that SRHR issues transcend health concerns they are deeply connected to human rights, social justice, and national development.
She called for the establishment of SRHR desks in all government institutions, schools, and communities across the country to help mainstream reproductive health awareness and ensure sustained national attention to these issues.
“Every institution-whether public or private-should have a space dedicated to promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights. This is essential if we are to break the barriers and achieve full inclusion,” she said.
The ongoing national conference is expected to feature a series of panel discussions, presentations, and interactive sessions focusing on key thematic areas, including: Access to reproductive health services and information, Gender equality and women’s empowerment, Adolescent sexual health education, Policy and legal frameworks supporting SRHR as well as the
role of media and civil society in advocacy.
Organizers say the three-day dialogue aims to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and develop a roadmap for advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights in Liberia.
