In a decisive move to enhance service delivery and accelerate development in the agriculture sector, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) on Tuesday hosted a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) under the government’s ongoing Sectoral Deep Dives initiative.
The engagement aimed to fast-track budget execution and strengthen the implementation of key agricultural programs. Finance and Development Planning Minister Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan emphasized a renewed focus on transparency, urgency, and measurable results.
“Liberians are impatient for progress—we must act now,” said Minister Ngafuan. “While we await additional aid, we must fully and efficiently utilize the resources already at our disposal.”
He further called for honest dialogue and accountability, underscoring a collaborative approach: “We’ve come with humility—to listen, learn, and work together on solutions that are measurable and time-bound.”
Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah urged the swift release of US$4 million to operationalize the proposed Agriculture Enterprise Development Bank, a public-private partnership. The facility has already attracted external investors who have committed to funding 40% of the initial capital.
He also appealed for support to complete eight mechanization centers across five counties, a move expected to modernize farming practices and boost productivity.
“This will motivate women and young people to embrace farming,” Dr. Nuetah noted, “knowing they no longer have to depend on traditional tools like cutlasses and hoes.”
The ministries agreed to develop a joint action plan with clear deliverables and accountability mechanisms, signaling a coordinated push for transformative agricultural development and improved service delivery.
