Mary’s Meals, a global school feeding charity,m has announced that it is reached 3 million children every school day with a nutritious meal served in their place of education.
According to them, such remarkable milestone reflects the power of collective action, compassion, and commitment to ending child hunger while promoting education.
Among other things, Mary’s Meals provides life-changing meals in schools across some of the world’s poorest communities, ensuring children are nourished and motivated to learn.
By serving a daily meal, the organization breaks down barriers to education and offers hope for a brighter future.
To mark this historic moment in the fight to end child hunger, Mary’s Meals is making a renewed call for global support for its school feeding programmes that target children living in high-need and hard-to-reach areas.
And as more than a quarter of all children worldwide face severe food poverty in early childhood (27%) amounting to more than 181 million children under five, the need for consistent school feeding programmes has never been more acute.
Mary’s Meals Founder and CEO, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, explains: “This landmark is less a celebration than it is a call to action.
We invite every person of goodwill to join the Mary’s Meals movement so that our vision – that every child in this world receives one daily meal in their place of education – might be realized. Whilst it is an amazing thing that this work has grown to reach 3 million children, the sad reality is that tens of millions of children remain hungry and out of school”, she re-emphasized.
Speaking more on the achievement, Paula Nawrocki, Mary’s Meals Liberia Country Director, said: more than 90,000 pre- and primary students in over 600 schools in Bong, Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount, Montserrado, and Bomi Counties receive a hot meal, enabling them to learn, to grow, and pursue their dreams and the contribution of Liberia to such global milestone is a testament to the dedication of community volunteers, community members, staff, and supporters who tirelessly work to ensure no child goes to school hungry.
“Reaching 3 million children worldwide is a profound moment for us all. We call on our local communities to continue increasing their support to the school feeding program so that together we can reach even more children in more schools across Liberia,” Paula Nawrocki reechoed”.
