In a significant effort to enhance healthcare delivery, the Ministry of Health under the National Blood Safety Program in Lofa embarked upon a major blood donation initiative in the County.
According to health authorities, the initiative is very key for the locals especially in addresses the critical issue of blood shortages, which have led to many preventable deaths, particularly in emergency situations like childbirth complications and road accidents.
Pregnant women facing complications during childbirth and individuals involved in road accidents are particularly vulnerable.
Moreover, the initiative is aimed at ensuring that hospitals have a sufficient supply of safe blood for urgent use, thereby reducing delays in treatment and preventing unnecessary fatalities.
Moses G. Dowee, the Blood Bank Manager, who is leading the initiative expressed his gratitude to the Lofa County Superintendent, the local Health Team, and community stakeholders for their support and cooperation.
He assured the gathering that the initiative will be a continuous one geared towards ensuring that Hospitals should never run out of blood, while patients will have to have access even when their caregivers are not able to donate.
The program also encourages sharing and replenishing blood supplies between facilities efficiently.
Speaking to the locals, Deputy Director Ms. Willie Lomak Ireland has encouraged community members to participate in the donation drive, highlighting the heroic nature of blood donors who help save lives. She remarked:
