The Lofa County Health Team, in collaboration with international partners, has successfully conducted a two-day training session focused on the Community Revolving Drugs Fund (CRDF) and cost-sharing strategies for clinics and health centers in Voinjama Districts 1 and 2.
The initiative aims to enhance healthcare delivery in the region by ensuring sustainable access to essential medicines.
The training session brought together healthcare professionals from various facilities and concentrated on the effective management of the CRDF.
Participants learned about the significance of revolving funds in maintaining a constant supply of medicines, as well as cost-sharing mechanisms that can be implemented within their health centers.
Dr. Moses Ujoe Weidehgar, the Lofa County Health Officer, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “Our goal is to ensure that healthcare services are accessible and affordable for all residents of Lofa County.
He emphasized the need for collaboration among healthcare providers, community leaders, and stakeholders to achieve this objective.
Dr. Weidhgar noted that volunteer staff will not have access to resources until they are fully employed.
Peter S. Sumo, who serves as the Community Health Department Director for Lofa, strongly encouraged all staff at the various facilities to prioritize transparency and accountability in their practices.
He pointed out that any individual who misuses drugs that they are responsible for, without providing the appropriate documentation, will be held accountable and will not be absolved of responsibility until the matter is rectified.
The CRDF training forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening healthcare systems in Lofa County, building on prior initiatives such as the launch of a Drug Revolving Fund Scheme at Kolahun Hospital.
The scheme has shown promising results in enhancing access to medicines for local communities.
