The President of the Liberian National Bar Association, Cllr. Bornor Varmah has assumes the role of Acting President, effective immediately of the West African Bar Association.
Cllr. Varmah, is an acclaimed International Trade Lawyer in the West African Sub-region, whose elevation now ensures continuity and areaffirmation of WABA’s mission to uphold the highest standards of legal professionalism and human rights advocacy in the sub-region.
Speaking on the transition at a virtual meeting of the Executive Committee recently, Cllr. Varmah stated that he is honored to assume this responsibility at such a critical juncture.
According to Cllr. Varmah, He remains committed to the shared vision of a just, democratic, and peaceful West Africa.
The LNBA President assumed the role following the resignation of President Ousmane Bouba Traore, citing personal reasons, after a brief tenure marked by unwavering commitment to justice, regional legal integration and the defense of human rights across West Africa
In accordance with WABA’s Constitution.
“I extend profound gratitude to Mr.
Traore for his service, and I look forward to building on the strong foundation he has
laid”. Cllr. Bornor Varmah added.
At this pivotal moment in the life of WABA, the Executive Committee remains resolute and unshaken in its commitment to ensuring that the Association actualizes its objective of promoting the maintenance of the Rule of Law and ensuring the
independence, incorruptibility and impartiality of the judiciary, amongst others.
All the Bar Associations in West Africa are hereby notified of the new development while also using this medium to put all the Bar leaders in West Africa sub-region on
notice that a General Meeting shall be convened in Nigeria in due course, on a date to be announced shortly.
