In a move to help empower, enhance and revamp the Liberia News Agency, Liberia’s Ambassador to Qatar Mohammed B.O.S. Kenneth has held talks with the Director General of the Qatari News Agency Ahmed Bin Sayeed AL Rumaihi.
The discussion according to a dispatch took place when Ambassador Kenneth was received in audience by the Director General of the Qatari News Agency (QNA) Mr. Ahmed Bin Sayeed AL Rumaihi at his office Doha.
As part of the discussion, The Liberian Ambassador is soliciting technical assistance from the Qatari government to the Liberia News Agency through the Qatari News agency in revamping to modern media technology.
Ambassador Kenneth used the occasion to recount the beginning of his journalism career at the Liberia News Agency as a senior reporter in 1979 just after its establishment ahead of the 1979 Summit of the Organization of African Unity now the African AU under its chairmanship of former President William R. Tolbert, Jr.
“LINA was a vibrant news agency up until the beginning of the civil war and unfortunately, LINA’s equipment at its central office and Monrovia and regional bureau were vandalized while most of its reporters either became displaced or killed” Ambassador Kenneth told the QNA boss.
In brief response, The Director General of the Qatari News Agency (QNA) Ahmed Bin Sayeed AL Rumaihi expressed his willingness to work with the Liberia embassy in Doha in getting such actualized through the bilateral relation subsisting between the two friendly nations.
