The Government of Liberia has assured citizens that it remains firmly in control of the situation along its northern border with Guinea, amid growing concerns over developments in Sorlumba, Foya District, Lofa County.

In a statement issued Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the Government through the Ministry of Justice said it has strengthened security deployment in the affected areas while simultaneously pursuing diplomatic channels to prevent escalation.

“The Government of Liberia is in full charge of the situation and will continue to address it with the highest degree of maturity and wisdom necessary to protect our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said.

Authorities have disclosed that the Joint Security apparatus has been actively monitoring the situation and has reinforced its presence along the border to maintain calm and reassure residents.

The Government further emphasized that it is prioritizing dialogue as the most viable path to a lasting solution.

As part of ongoing efforts, a high-level delegation was earlier dispatched to Conakry to engage Guinean officials, adding that this was followed by a regional diplomatic meeting involving President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, and Guinean leader Mamadi Doumbouya.

According to the statement issued, the government noted that leaders held “cordial, frank, and fraternal discussions” which culminated in a communiqué reaffirming their commitment to peaceful coexistence, territorial integrity, and regional cooperation.

“The three leaders reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the principles of the inviolability of borders and called for a return to the status quo of peaceful coexistence,” the statement noted.

While assuring the public of stability, the Government also raised concerns about misinformation circulating online, warning that false narratives could undermine ongoing efforts.

“There are numerous fake AI-generated images and unverified claims on social media regarding the situation at the border. These have the dangerous propensity of inciting fear, panic, and chaos within our communities,” the statement cautioned.

The Government urged citizens, particularly those in border communities, to remain calm and avoid actions or statements that could inflame tensions.

“We call on all citizens to exercise restraint, uphold mutual respect, and preserve the longstanding bonds of peaceful coexistence with our neighbors,” the government added.

However, the government has assured citizens its commitment to democratic principles, and it will not hesitate to take lawful action against individuals whose conduct threatens national peace and stability.

Indicating further that that they will continue to engage its regional partners through mechanisms such as the Mano River Union to ensure sustained peace along the border.
