The Liberia Land Authority (LLA) has taken decisive administrative action against two of its officials assigned in Maryland County, following a recent high-powered delegation visit led by the Authority’s Chairman to the Southeastern region.
According to an official communication from the LLA headquarters, County Land Administrator Robert Moore and County Surveyor Jerry Thomas have both been suspended without pay and barred from occupying their respective offices.
The Authority stated that Administrator Moore was suspended for failing to operate the county office in line with the approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and for his alleged persistent refusal to submit monthly reports since assuming office.
The LLA emphasized that the alleged negligence has severely impeded decision-making on critical land cases in the county.
In a separate but related action, Surveyor Thomas was suspended indefinitely for abandoning his post for six months without any formal request for leave or approval from the central office.
The suspension of the two officials has sparked mixed reactions among residents of Maryland County.
Some citizens have welcomed the move, viewing it as a necessary step to restore accountability in public service and a deterrent to other government employees who neglect their responsibilities.
Maryland County continues to face numerous unresolved land disputes, with many attributing the prolonged stalemates to weak administrative oversight and poor handling of cases under the suspended leadership.
The Liberia Land Authority is yet to announce replacements for the two officials or provide further directives on the way forward for land administration in Maryland County.
