Former Liberian President George Manneh Weah has extended heartfelt condolences to United States President Donald J. Trump, the family of the late Senator Lindsey Olin Graham, and the Government and people of the United States following the sudden passing of the veteran American lawmaker.
In a formal letter of condolence addressed to President Trump, the former Liberian leader described Senator Graham’s death as a profound loss not only to the United States but also to the international community, where the South Carolina Republican was widely recognized for his decades-long influence on foreign policy, national security, and bipartisan legislative engagement.
Senator Graham died on July 11, 2026, at the age of 71, after what officials initially described as a brief and sudden illness.
Preliminary findings from the District of Columbia Medical Examiner indicate that he died from an aortic dissection associated with arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Former President Weah conveyed his deepest sympathies to President Trump, the bereaved Graham family, and the American people, emphasizing that Senator Graham’s passing leaves “a significant void” in the political and diplomatic landscape of the United States.
He described the late senator as “a great statesman, devoted public servant, and patriot” whose distinguished career was marked by unwavering dedication to public service, democratic governance, and America’s leadership on global affairs.
Senator Graham served in the United States Senate for more than two decades, representing South Carolina since 2003, after serving four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Throughout his congressional career, he became one of Washington’s most influential voices on defense, foreign relations, judicial affairs, and national security, earning recognition from colleagues across party lines for his experience and commitment to public service.
Former President Weah noted that Liberia joins the international community in mourning the passing of a leader whose public life reflected steadfast service to his country.
“We share in the grief of President Donald J. Trump, the Graham family, the Government, and the great people of the United States during this difficult time of national mourning,” the former Liberian President stated.
Concluding his message, Weah offered prayers for comfort and strength to those affected by the loss.
“It is my fervent prayer and hope that you, the Graham Family, and the people of the United States, in your usual resilience, will take solace in the Lord as you go through this challenging period of bereavement.
May Almighty God grant Senator Lindsey Olin Graham eternal rest and provide peace and consolation to all who mourn his passing.”
The condolence message adds Liberia’s voice to a growing chorus of tributes from leaders around the world honoring Senator Graham’s decades of service and his enduring impact on American politics and international diplomacy.
