Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. on Wednesday formally received the Letters of Credence from two newly appointed ambassadors, Berenice Owen-Jones of the Commonwealth of Australia and Normal Ang Sanchez of the United Mexican States at a ceremony held at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.
The event marks another step in Liberia’s expanding diplomatic outreach, following similar credential presentations on October 21, 2025, from the ambassadors-designate of Spain, Pakistan, the Philippines, Ghana, and Mali.
The growing number of diplomatic missions underscores the Boakai Administration’s commitment to strengthening Liberia’s international relationships and fostering global cooperation.
Australia Seeks Deeper Cooperation on Education and Climate Resilience
In her remarks, Ambassador Berenice Owen-Jones conveyed Australia’s intention to expand collaboration with Liberia in key sectors, including education, governance, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
She emphasized Australia’s readiness to work with Liberia in exploring new avenues for partnership, noting that the two countries share mutual interests in promoting democratic governance and addressing global environmental challenges.
Presenting his credentials, Ambassador Normal Ang Sanchez highlighted Mexico’s desire to enhance bilateral cooperation with Liberia, focusing on trade, agriculture, and cultural exchange.
He described Liberia as a key partner in advancing South-South cooperation and reaffirmed Mexico’s commitment to supporting Liberia’s development and economic diversification goals.
President Boakai welcomed the new envoys and praised their respective governments for their longstanding friendship with Liberia. He expressed optimism that the new diplomatic missions would further strengthen economic, cultural, and political ties between Liberia and their nations.
The President also reiterated his administration’s ongoing efforts to rebrand Liberia’s international image and build strategic partnerships that contribute to national transformation and growth.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.
