Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has formally accepted the resignations of two senior government officials, marking significant administrative changes in two critical public institutions.
The departures involve the suspended Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Agency (NaFAA), Emma Catherine Metieh Glassco, and the Deputy Director-General for Training and Development at the Liberia Institute of Public Administration (LIPA), Mariama Kamara Macauley.
Madam Glassco, who previously oversaw a sector that contributes an estimated 12 percent to Liberia’s national GDP and directly supports over 33,000 coastal households, submitted her resignation on November 11, 2025.
In her written communication, she cited “domestic reasons” and asked that the resignation take immediate effect.
During her tenure, Glassco spearheaded several initiatives aimed at modernizing Liberia’s artisanal fisheries, including capacity-building programs, coastal resource management efforts, and international partnerships to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing an issue that globally results in over $20 billion in annual economic losses.
She described her years at NaFAA as “a distinct honor,” expressing gratitude to President Boakai and reaffirming her pride in contributing to Liberia’s fisheries development agenda.
At the Liberia Institute of Public Administration, Madam Mariama Kamara Macauley tendered her resignation on November 24, 2025, with an effective date of November 30, 2025.
LIPA, which plays a central role in government capacity-building and trains more than 2,000 civil servants annually, has been a key pillar in President Boakai’s public sector reform and professionalization drive.
In her letter, Kamara said the decision followed “careful reflection” and stemmed from personal matters requiring her immediate attention.
She thanked the President for the opportunity to serve and reaffirmed her dedication to supporting Liberia’s public governance reforms.
She also expressed readiness to contribute again in the future “wherever her expertise may be needed.”
President Boakai extended appreciation to both outgoing officials for their service and contributions to Liberia’s governance and development efforts.
He wished them well in their future pursuits, underscoring that the government remains committed to continuity, accountability, and the strengthening of public institutions.
The resignations come as the Boakai administration continues its broader agenda of institutional renewal, public sector transparency, and improved governance across ministries and agencies.
