Legal representatives of Cllr. F. Juah Lawson have strongly refuted a recent FrontPage Africa Online article portraying her as “delinquent, lazy, and deliberately obstructive” in the enforcement of a court order involving the high-profile case of Karen Sehkehporh versus the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK).
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the Renaissance Law Group, Inc., along with Wright & Associates Law Firm and Cllr. Ebenizar Z. Gibson, described the allegations as “entirely false, unfounded, and deeply regrettable.”
“Justice cannot thrive on distortion.
It is sustained by collaboration, sacrifice, and adherence to truth,” the statement declared.
According to the legal team, their involvement in the case spanning its progression to the Supreme Court of Liberia has been marked by unwavering commitment, both professionally and financially.
“From the commencement of this case through to final judgment, our team has borne all legal expenses without hesitation or reservation,” said Cllr. Lawson, one of the lead counsels.
The lawyers emphasized that they have no statutory power to enforce court rulings, noting that the execution of judgments falls under the mandate of state authorities, including the Ministry of Justice and, ultimately, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP).
They further clarified that the JFK Medical Center has already forwarded the judgment to the Ministry of Justice for onward submission to the President of Liberia.
Upon presidential approval, the matter is expected to proceed to the MFDP for payment under the Domestic Debt framework.
Throughout the process, the legal team stated, Madam Sehkehporh has remained informed and involved.
“She has been physically present during engagements with both JFK and the Ministry of Justice,” the statement noted.
The lawyers also pointed to the JFK Medical Center Act of 2013, which reclassified the institution as an autonomous public entity, independent of direct government control.
Under the law, JFK can sue and be sued in its own name.
“We nonetheless continue to pursue enforcement directly with JFK, as the judgment is against that institution,” the lawyers asserted.
Expressing empathy for Madam Sehkehporh’s ongoing wait for justice, the team condemned what they described as “misleading media narratives” aimed at tarnishing the reputation of attorneys who have, in their words, “worked diligently and selflessly.”
“The current media narrative is inaccurate and injurious. We remain firmly committed to the pursuit of justice for all clients who entrust their causes to our care,” they concluded.
