Nixon L. Kpee, the Superintendent of Kokoyah Statutory District, has made a heartfelt and urgent appeal for assistance in seeking specialized medical treatment abroad due to his worsening health conditions, which are beyond the scope of local healthcare capabilities.
Superintendent Kpee, who has served in his role under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, revealed that his health challenges began shortly after he took office.
He has been undergoing treatment at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, Liberia’s largest public health facility, where doctors diagnosed him with a complex ailment referred to as “Spinnaker disorder.”
This condition requires advanced medical interventions that are not currently available within the country.
Speaking from his sickbed, Kpee expressed his frustration and urgency in seeking help, stating, “The doctors have tried all they can here, but they have made it clear that the nature of my illness demands advanced diagnostics and treatment that are not available in our country.”
His deteriorating health has prompted him to formally request medical leave and support from Bong County Superintendent Hawa Loleya Norris and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In his appeal, Kpee emphasized the financial constraints he faces in securing the necessary treatment, urging humanitarian organizations, non-governmental organizations, the diaspora community, and any philanthropic individuals to assist him financially.
“I have officially informed my superiors, but due to financial constraints and the urgent nature of my condition, I am also reaching out to humanitarian organizations, NGOs, the diaspora community, and philanthropic individuals to assist me in any way possible,” he said.
Hon. Kpee took the opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable support he has received from Representative Prince K. Koinah, who has stood by him through these challenging times. “Representative Koinah has been by my side from the very beginning, offering both moral and financial support.
I am truly grateful for his continued encouragement,” he added.
Kpee urged the lawmaker to continue his efforts in helping to secure funding and necessary documentation for his medical travel abroad.
Despite his serious health challenges, Kpee affirmed his dedication to serving the people of Kokoyah Statutory District, asserting that his current focus must be on his health to ensure he can effectively fulfill his duties in the future.
“I am deeply committed to serving the people of Kokoyah Statutory District, but right now my health has to come first if I am to continue serving with strength and integrity,” he stated.
Kpee’s appeal highlights the urgent need for advanced medical care in Liberia and calls attention to the challenges faced by public officials in accessing necessary healthcare services.
His situation underscores the importance of support from both governmental and non-governmental organizations in ensuring that individuals in need of medical assistance can receive treatment promptly, particularly in cases where local facilities are inadequate.
As he awaits for a possible response to his appeal, Kpee remains hopeful for a swift resolution that will allow him to regain his health and resume his responsibilities to the community he serves.
