The Government of Liberia has officially declared Wednesday, July 30, 2025, as a National Day of Prayer, to be observed as a National Holiday across the country.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 29, during a press briefing held at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) in Monrovia.
Speaking at the event, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah emphasized that the day is dedicated to offering gratitude to God Almighty and seeking divine intervention for the nation.
Minister Piah called on Christians, Muslims, and people of all religious backgrounds to gather at their respective places of worship.
Among other things, The purpose, he noted, is to pray for healing, peace, unity, and the restoration of the nation and its people.
Minister stated, National Day of Prayer is not just a religious gesture, but a moment of national reflection and spiritual commitment, encourage every Liberian, regardless of faith, to come together in prayer for the country’s healing and progress.
In a related statement, Minister Piah clarifies the President’s pronouncement stating that the Liberian leader acted within the framework of Liberian law.
“The decision by President Boakai to proclaim July 30 as a National Holiday is fully within his constitutional powers,” Piah explained.
“There has been no violation of the laws of Liberia. The Executive has the authority to declare national holidays in the interest of public welfare”, he further justifies.
