Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations, J. Nelson Freeman, has celebrated his birthday in his hometown of Lawalazu, Lofa County, marking the occasion with a gesture aimed at promoting youth development and community unity.
The senior police official Freeman joined residents, elders, youth groups, and local leaders in a modest but meaningful gathering, during which he donated two footballs and sets of jerseys to youth teams in the community.
Speaking during the presentation of the donated items, Deputy Police IG, Freeman expressed gratitude to the people of Lawalazu for their continued support and prayers throughout his career, emphasizing that his gesture was in consonant with the President visit to the county and as such from the office of the president.
The donation of the two footballs and two sets of jerseys was in commemoration of his birthday to the people of Lawalazu Town, his place of birth.“Youth development through sports is a powerful tool for building character and unity,” Freeman said.
“As someone who grew up here, it is always my responsibility to contribute in whatever way I can to the progress of this community.”
According to community leaders, the donation is not strange to them as Deputy Police IG Freeman has always given back to Lawalazu, his hometown adding that he has since shown his love for the town to help encourage and have the town organized and united.
Community elders and youth representatives thanked the Deputy Inspector General for always remembering his hometown despite his demanding national responsibilities.
They described the donation as timely and symbolic, noting that sports have long played a unifying role in Lawalazu.
The birthday celebration ended with friendly interactions, prayers for continued service to the nation, and renewed calls for community cooperation with law enforcement to sustain peace and security.
