In a significant move to enhance the agricultural landscape of Liberia, Christ’s Vision International Ministries (CVIM) is set to introduce its first batch of locally produced rice, aptly named “Living Manna Rice.” This initiative, rooted in biblical symbolism, is intended to empower local farmers and stimulate the economy.
The announcement was made on June 23, 2025, by Rev. James Paye, the founder and overseer of CVIM and the Executive Director of the Rice, Cassava, and Vegetable Producers and Processors Union of Liberia.
The name “Living Manna Rice” draws inspiration from the miraculous food provided to the Israelites during their exodus from Egypt, highlighting the project’s spiritual and agricultural significance.
Rev. Paye outlined plans for the rice’s debut sale, anticipated to begin in early July 2025. Initially, the cooperative has packaged over 50 bags, with a target of processing and packaging approximately 500 bags of organic rice, each weighing 25 kilograms.
The retail price for each bag is expected to fall between US$16.50 and US$17.00.
The initiative aims not only to deliver quality agricultural products but also to create employment opportunities for church members and community residents in Gbarnga. Rev. Paye emphasized the dual purpose of the project: providing sustenance for the local market while fostering job growth and skill development among its participants.
In his address to the media, Rev. Paye urged fellow Liberian clergymen to extend their reach beyond traditional preaching, advocating for active engagement in agricultural pursuits.
He posited that agriculture can serve as a powerful tool for economic empowerment and national development, aligning with the government’s objectives of enhancing food security and economic resilience.
In recognition of the supportive role played by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rev. Paye commended the agency for its financial assistance, noting that US$9,000 of the allocated US$19,000 has been instrumental in facilitating the cooperative’s farming activities. He expressed gratitude for this support, which he believes has greatly bolstered operations.
However, Rev. Paye did not shy away from advocating for increased governmental backing.
He urged the Ministry of Agriculture to expand its budgetary support to faith-based agricultural initiatives, viewing this as a critical step toward sustainable agriculture and national recovery.
He also called upon the Liberian government to prioritize agriculture as a fundamental driver of the country’s economic resurgence and a cornerstone for achieving long-term food security.
The launch of “Living Manna Rice” is more than just a commercial endeavor; it represents a broader vision of community engagement, economic empowerment, and spiritual fulfillment.
With its roots deeply embedded in both faith and production, Christ’s Vision International Ministries aims to pave the way for a thriving agricultural sector in Liberia, fostering resilience and self-sufficiency among its people.
