President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has received a significant political endorsement from the Liberia Political Centrism Movement (LPCM), a fast-growing coalition of young professionals advocating for moderate, issue-based national dialogue.
The endorsement was delivered at the Executive Mansion on Saturday during a high-level delegation visit led by LPCM Chairman Counselor Kanio Bai Gbala.
Counselor Gbala said the decision followed “months of observation” of the President’s leadership, particularly his administration’s emphasis on national healing, reconciliation, and institution-building.
He praised the President’s “steady and unifying approach to governance”, adding that the LPCM felt it necessary to align with efforts geared toward rebuilding state systems, promoting transparency, and stabilizing national development.
LPCM, formed in recent years amid growing calls for political moderation, comprises professionals from diverse political backgrounds.
According to Gbala, a majority of members previously affiliated with the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), while others have no partisan alignment.
The organization advocates for non-toxic political engagement, civic maturity, and national interest above party loyalty an outlook gaining traction among Liberia’s youthful population, which constitutes over 60% of the nation’s 5.5 million people.
Gbala emphasized that political opposition should not be “furiously bitter” but rather grounded in constructive policy proposals and cooperation where necessary.
He noted that Liberia’s development challenges including a 5.4% economic growth projection for 2025, persistent youth unemployment, and infrastructure gaps require collective action rather than partisan fragmentation.
Other LPCM leaders echoed concerns about the direction of national progress and expressed confidence in President Boakai’s governance model.
They pledged to collaborate with the administration on civic education, peacebuilding initiatives, and development-oriented advocacy.
President Boakai thanked the delegation and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance.
“My focus is not partisan victory,” he said, “but the advancement of Liberia and the unity of all its people.”
The President also shared reflections on his decades-long public service career, emphasizing the values of patience, national cohesion, and institution-building.
He underscored that sustainable development can only occur when Liberians work together regardless of political differences.
The meeting concluded with a symbolic gesture as the LPCM decorated the President with the movement’s signature T-shirt and cap, signifying their official welcome and alignment with the administration’s agenda.
