Liberia’s Ambassador for Youth and Sports Development, Alioune Kebe, has intensified his support for rural sports development by providing essential equipment and prizes to young athletes in River Gee County.
As part of his ongoing commitment to empower talented youth across Liberia, Amb. Kebe donated a giant-size trophy, quality footballs, and jerseys for both football and kickball teams participating in the county-level tournament.
“I remain passionate about putting smiles on the faces of Liberia’s talented young people through sports development and empowerment,” Amb. Kebe said.
River Gee County, created in 2000 under former President Charles Taylor, has seen significant development in recent years, especially in community and youth initiatives.
With a growing youth population, sports have become a vital outlet for engagement and talent promotion.
The recently held tournament, organized by the county leadership led by Superintendent Mike Swengbe, was aimed at unearthing local talents and promoting sportsmanship.
Superintendent Mike Swengbe expressed gratitude for the ambassador’s intervention, calling it a timely and impactful contribution to both rural and urban sports development.
“With more support and empowerment, our young people can do a lot in the sector,” Superintendent Swengbe emphasized.
In addition to his efforts in River Gee, Amb. Kebe also supported a major tournament in Grand Cape Mount County.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority.
The multi-sport tournament featured football, kickball, and volleyball, showcasing the rich talents of local youth across three disciplines.
At the same time, the tournament geared towards promoting unity, peace and reconciliation among the locals.
Meanwhile, Amb. Kebe as part of said efforts provided trophies, footballs, and jerseys to help facilitate the games and inspire greater participation.
