President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called on the people of Lofa County to unite in a collective effort to reclaim the county’s historic title as the “Breadbasket of the Nation,” emphasizing reconciliation and development as central themes in his message to the Liberian diaspora.

The President’s message was delivered on his behalf by Deputy Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of State, Anthony V. Kesselly, during the Inaugural Ball and Fundraising Dinner of the Federation of Lofa Associations in the Americas (FLAA), held Saturday, October 4, in Columbus, Ohio.

In his keynote address, President Boakia himself a native of Lofa expressed deep concern for the county’s diminished agricultural prominence and called for renewed collective efforts to restore its former economic and cultural vitality.

“President Boakai sees the people of Lofa as pivotal in driving peace, reconciliation, and healing,” said Deputy Minister Kesselly.

“He believes that peace and togetherness are critical foundations for national prosperity.”

Referencing recent major speeches by the President including his address at the Liberia Diaspora Conference in Washington, D.C., and the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the creation of Lofa, Bong, Grand Gedeh, and Nimba Counties Kesselly emphasized that Boakai remains committed to national unity and shared purpose.

“The President wants Lofaians to rise up as bridge builders,” Kesselly said.

“He encourages all to erase antagonism and foster cooperation, both within the county and among Liberians in the diaspora.”

President Boakai also pledged his full support for diaspora-led initiatives that contribute positively to development efforts in Lofa.

The FLAA event also marked the formal induction of a new leadership team.

The ceremony saw James Saywala Kennedy of Texas was sworn in as President of the association, alongside Vice President Lucia Dunor (Ohio), Secretary Aaron Kpehe (Kentucky), Treasurer Dedeh Wiaka (Ohio), Financial Secretary Dwanah S. Dwanah (New Jersey), and Chaplain Reverend Dr. Joe B.M. Biaty (Boston).

A poignant moment during the event came as FLAA honored the children and sister of the late Jusu Hena, a former FLAA President.

President Boakai, through his representative, presented a plaque recognizing Mr. Hena’s enduring contributions to the association and the Liberian community abroad.

The evening also featured a performance by acclaimed Liberian artist Ophelia Dawolo, who performed her well-known patriotic song, “Come Home (Kapa Kapa Liberia).”
