President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has officially signed into law the 2025 Liberia National Tourism Act.

The decision by the Liberian leader marked a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to develop tourism as a major driver of economic growth and employment.

President Boakai emphasized that the establishment of the LNTA reflects the Government’s commitment to harnessing Liberia’s rich cultural and natural heritage to attract international tourists, stimulate local business growth, and create sustainable employment opportunities.

Following the sigining of the legal instrument , the Liberia National Tourism Authority will immediately begin its work to implement programs that promote Liberia as a competitive and vibrant tourism destination, while coordinating with stakeholders in both government and private sectors.

Among other things, The Act establishes the Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA) as the principal government agency responsible for promoting, encouraging, and regulating tourism in Liberia.

The Act, an amendment to Title 30 of the Public Authorities Law of the Liberian Codes of Law Revised, outlines the Authority’s mandate among other things to: Foster tourism development as a key socioeconomic activity; Generate foreign currency and employment opportunities; Spread the benefits of tourism across both the public and private sectors and Serve as the regulatory agency for tourism in Liberia.

In accordance with Chapter 5, Section 5.1 of the Act, President Boakai has appointed the following initial statutory and presidential board members to guide the transition and formal establishment of the Authority:

Board Members of the Liberia National Tourism Authority includes; The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Statutory Member (or Deputy Minister as proxy) The Minister of Justice, Statutory Member (or Deputy Minister as proxy) The Minister of Internal Affairs, Statutory Member (or Deputy Minister as proxy) Representative of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce, Statutory Member, The Minister of Information , Presidential Option Member and Christopher Hayes Onanuga Presidential Special Envoy on Tourism.
