The Liberia National Police (LNP) has formally charged Madam Zainab Bah and her husband, Ibrahim Jalloh, following a widely circulated video depicting a confrontation with police officers related to an alleged power theft incident.

Simultaneously, the LNP has taken disciplinary action against an officer involved in the arrest, suspending her for forcibly removing Madam Bah’s hijab during the encounter.

Madam Zainab Bah now faces charges of simple assault and resisting arrest.

Her husband, Ibrahim Jalloh, has been charged with power theft for allegedly tampering with Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) meter.

The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, drew significant public attention and sparked debate over both alleged criminality and police conduct.

Meanwhile, Officer Alice Togba, who was prominently seen in the controversial video forcibly removing Madam Bah’s religious head covering during the arrest, has been suspended for one month without pay.

Police investigators described Officer Togba’s action as “unnecessary” and a clear violation of proper conduct and procedures during an arrest.

The cases against Madam Bah and Mr. Jalloh are expected to proceed through the Liberian judicial system as investigations continue into the alleged power theft.
