The Foundation for Research, Education & Empowerment (FREE) Liberia is delighted to announce a renewed partnership with the Liberia Institute for “Growing” Patriotism (LIGP), the Angie Brooks International Centre (ABIC), Cuttington University (CU), and the Tolbert Family—collectively joining hands to expand trauma relief efforts across the country. This collaboration represents a shared commitment to helping Liberia heal, build resilience, and strengthen peaceful coexistence.

As part of this partnership, our institutions will continue supporting the rollout of trauma-relief activities designed to empower participants with knowledge, emotional tools, and practical techniques for managing stress, promoting healing, and supporting others. Through this initiative, participants will gain a deeper understanding of trauma and how it shapes behavior; learn key coping tools such as the Feeling Thermometer, deep breathing, grounding practices, and positive affirmations; and cultivate empathy, nonviolence, and responsible citizenship. Ultimately, each participant is encouraged to become a trauma-relief ambassador—someone who promotes peace, healing, and unity within their community.

This upcoming training forms a vital component of operationalizing the Rev. William R. Tolbert, Jr. Chair, launched in May 2024 by President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. The Chair focuses on Sustaining Liberia’s Peace—Mediation, Conflict Resolution, Reconciliation, and National Unity, and is generously supported by LIGP, ABIC, CU, and the Tolbert Family. The initiative builds on the successful trauma cluster training recently held in Kakata at CU Junior College, which trained and certificated more than 120 participants. Feedback from that training revealed powerful results:
• 95% reported increased understanding of trauma and its effects
• 92% gained confidence in using healing tools
• 89% felt better prepared to support others emotionally
• 100% praised the facilitation as empathetic, engaging, and transformative

Inspired by these outcomes, FREE and partners will host another life-changing trauma cluster training on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Liberian Learning Center in Paynesville. This session will bring together 75 participants from diverse backgrounds and will be graced by prominent national figures including Hon. Olubanke King-Akerele, Cllr. Yvette Chesson-Wureh, Dr. Romelle A. Horton, and other distinguished guests who continue to champion peace and healing across Liberia.

FREE Liberia remains deeply grateful to our partners for their vision, generosity, and unwavering commitment. Their support continues to make the Liberia Trauma Relief Initiative (LET-IT) a beacon of hope for communities across the nation.
